Quick update - wix has not allowed me to upload more photos/videos without paying :( This means that I only will have 4 more posts (Istanbul, Portugal, Barcelona, and London) on this blog. This does coincide with the end of Sajal's and my worldwide trip so it's coming along with a natural end anyways. These 4 blogs will also have no pictures, but they will all be up on Facebook and Instagram! So please check there.
I went to Lisbon for my friend's Bachelorette Party!!! Lisbon was the perfect town for it. It's fun and lots to do, but not too much to do. We stayed on a road constructed by the Romans right next to Praça Dom Pedro IV. This plaza was super central and it was convenient to go everywhere.
We did a 3 hour walking tour that covered most of Lisbon! We saw Jardim de São Pedro de Alcântara which is this high point where we saw all of Lisbon. We then walked through some neighborhoods until we ended up near the Carmo Convent. The Carmo Convent is a burned-down Gothic church that was ruined in the Lisbon earthquake. It was very haunting and beautiful. We walked Augusta Road which is a lively road with a lot of restaurants and shops. We ended our tour at the Praça do Comércio which used to be the Portugese Castle right next to the Atlantic Ocean. It has this beautiful arc and great statues as well. We also saw the pink road which a road painted pink with a bunch of restaurants and music!
The next day we went on a day trip to Pena Palace & Sinatra. Pena Palace is a romantic castle that is built up high on a mountain. It used to be a monastery and was then converted into a palace. It was really beautiful and the architecture of the palace was just breathtaking. Afterwards, we spent time at Sinatra which is a small town near the Pena Palace. We walked through the town, tried local bakery items, and bought some local art for souvenirs. Walking around Sinatra was very fun. We also went to the easternmost point in all of mainland Europe, which was the closest I have been to the USA since November! The view at the easternmost point was beautiful with the bright blue water, green landscapes, and the cliffside. We ended our day in Cascais which is a beach town. We had lunch there and just walked around.
On our last day, we went to a cooking class! We made pastéis de nata which are egg custard tartes. You might have had these in a Chinese restaurant so I thought the Portuguese stole it from the Chinese but I was wrong. Our chef told us that the Chinese loved these so much that they started making them as well. We made some really really yummy tarts. In the afternoon we went to a salsa dance class which was hard but so fun!
And that was what we did in Lisbon!
