Sajal and I spent a weekend in Athens and it was so much fun. The first day we spent a bunch of time in Monastiraki Square. This a big open square with a flea market, many good resturaunts, and a near by commercial area. It is also right next to the Roman Forum, Ancient Agora, and Hadrian's Library while also having a beautiful view of the Acropolis. So you could be eating dinner while viewing the Parthenon which is really amazing.
Sajal and I did a mythological tour from TripAdvisor! This was a 4 hours tour but it was super amazing. We started in front of the Temple of the Olympian Zeus, then saw Hadrian's Arc. From there we went to the Acropolis. We went slowly up the hill, looking at Dionysus's amphitheater (which is the first amphitheater ever) and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus (another huge Ampitheater).
We were able to see the temple of Nike on the way to the top as well. At the top of Acropolis, we saw the Parthenon, the gates to the Parthenon, and Athena's first temple.
After the Acropolis we saw Hephaestus's temple which is the best preserved Ancient Greek temple inside the Ancient Agora. Along the way our tour guide told us stories about the sites and their related Greek Gods. It was a lot of fun to see this all in context.
If you go to Greece, highly recommend you seeing the combo ticket as it gets you into the Parthenon, Roman Forum, Ancient Agora, Zeus's Temple, Hadrian's Library and more. And you can use the ticket for up to 5 days! We went to the other sites we didn't see with the tour guide the next day. The flexibility of the tickets were really nice.
All in all, we had a ton of fun in Athens!
