Disclaimer!! I wrote this about Austin before the winter storm that had overtaken the area. Sajal and I are wishing that everyone in Austin and Texas stay safe and warm. Austin is a beautiful and wonderful place that will prevail this horrible tragedy.
Sajal and I lived in Austin for 5 weeks. It was Sajal's first time in Texas and the first time I had stayed there for more than 3 days. It was so much fun. Austin is in central Texas, so it was really easy to live there and explore the nearby cities: Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Houston. Within Austin, we lived in this area called the Domain.
The Domain is something unlike anything I have ever experienced. Sajal and I loved it. The area had amazing stores such as Tiffany's, Louis Vuitton, Athleta, and boutique stores. They also have some of the best restaurants and bars, amazing companies, and even movie theaters. These are all located in a town center style. On top of all of these stores and restaurants are apartments where we lived. You could walk around the entire complex within 20 minutes. It was always so much fun to take a break from work and walk around outside. If you're from NOVA, Domain is kind of like the Tysons of Austin. It has an uptown sort of feel.
Around the Domain, we saw some super cool murals that I just had to take advantage of.
Austin itself is a very up-and-coming city. It is attracting a lot of tech companies from Silicon Valley and really becoming a tech center in America. Compared to the other cities in Texas, Austin has a lot of growth potential. It's the smaller brother compared to Houston and Dallas. Sajal and I found the city to be pretty liberal. We saw a lot of political stickers supporting Democrats. We also thought that everyone in the City was super duper kind.
A lot of people are calling Austin a mini San Francisco. We especially felt this when we went to South Congress. This is a really cool part of the city that is across the river. If you have ever been to SF, it's a lot like the mission. There's a bunch of apartments and cool resturaunts all up and down the street. There we found some super cute murals that we had to take some pictures in front of.
Even around Austin, there are some really cool spots to explore the city. We really enjoyed looking at the City Captial and exploring the Drag. The Drag is a collection of bars and restaurants close to downtown Austin. We also explored the University of Texas at Austin which was a super cute campus. Hyde Park was a great area to live in for families. North Loop also had some super fun places to check out as well. Among all of these neighborhoods, our favorite was the Domain. It was just such a fun place to be and the food was to die for.
One super fun activity we did in Austin was doing a virtual reality video game at Sandbox. It was so much fun. It was super realistic and graphic. We played a zombie game and I genuinely got scared. You can hear me scream in the video below.
Austin is a super fun place that everyone should definitely go check out!
