Houston We Have a Problem

This past weekend Sajal and I went to Houston. It was about a 3 and a half-hour drive from Austin. One of my best friends lives there so she gave us a recommendation to eat at Pappasittos. Sajal got fajitas which were super yummy and I got fajitas floutas which was a fried corn tortilla with meat and cheese inside. Kind of like a Mexican spring roll. I really wanted to try Tex-Mex food and let me tell you I was not disappointed. We got so into our food that we totally forgot to take pictures but if you go to Houston I definitely recommend the restaurant.

After that, we went to the Kemah boardwalk. It was a super fun place with a ferris wheel, roller coasters, and other attractions. Sajal and I walked around for a bit, but we didn't feel like it was too safe because of covid-19. The place was kind of busy, so we left after 15 minutes. This is one place I definitely want to come back to after quarantine ends. After that, we went to our hotel to just have some downtime. We stayed at the Hilton near the Houston Space Center. It was a super beautiful hotel that followed all covid-19 guidelines and was in general super safe and clean.

Finally, we ended our Saturday night by going to the Galleria. The Galleria is a super big mall with amazing brands and stores. It even has an ice skating rink inside it! Living in NOVA, I thought Tysons Corner Mall was huge, but the Galleria and the Ala Moana center (in Hawaii) have really beat Tysons by a huge margin. We had so much fun just exploring all of the stores. There were really talented people ice skating, which I thought was super funny since we were in Texas!

The next day, Sajal and I went to the Houston Space Center. While you are there, they actually let you tour the NASA facilities there. We got to see actual rockets that have been used in the past or even some that might be used again!

We got to see robots that NASA is working on. We got to see the quarters where astronauts train before going to the international space station. It was super duper cool. In non-covid times, we would have even been able to see mission control where the rockets communicate with Earth.

This was the 3rd space museum I had been to (the other 2 being the ones in NOVA and DC). It was super nice, but I felt that the museum part was a bit small compared to the others. However, they still had some really cool artifacts there. I loved that they had the space shuttle there!

After the space center, we went home. My friend told us that we had we stop by Buc-ee's. Buc-ee's is essentially the best gas station in the world. Inside, they have stands where you can buy fudge, sandwiches, burgers, sloppy joes, brisket, Buc-ee's snacks, etc. They even had a whole gift shop section to buy Texan gifts. I was honestly amazed that such a thing even existed. If you go to Texas, you have to stop at Buc-ee's. Sajal was so impressed that he even took this picture below.

In general, Sajal and I really enjoyed Houston. San Antonio was by far more beautiful but Houston was bigger, more developed, and was just really fun. We found 5 Bollywood radio stations while we were there, which was just something really cool for us. We even drove out to Galveston, which is the beach area about an hour from Houston. It was super pretty. Also, Houston was warmer than San Antonio and Austin which I loved. Houston is a super cool place and I encourage everyone to go check it out! :)
