The past weekend, we took a quick trip to Madrid. We took the train from Barcelona to there and it took 3.5 hours. The was very comfortable and went really fast.
The first day we took the hop on hop off bus around Madrid. We saw a lot of Madrid and was super easy to get around using it. We saw the royal palace of Spain! It was beautiful and grand. We didn’t go inside, but there are tours. A lot of rooms are ornate and covered in gold- unfortunately we just didn’t have time. We did walk around the palace gardens, which are beautiful. There are a ton of trees with a beautiful fountain the middle, just behind the castle.
We also went to Reitro park. It’s this park in Madrid with multiple sculptures, statues, lakes, and gardens. It was really fun to walk around and see all of the sculptures and fountains.
The next day, we went on a 3 day tour to the small towns & cities around Madrid. We went to Segovia,
Avila, & Tulum! Segovia was my favorite city and we went there first. It just has this small city feel while being in this big city. All of these towns were first built by the Romans, then lived in by the Muslims, Jews, and then Christians. Because of this, as you walk through the cities you can clearly see the differences in the architecture. This was the most clear is Segovia. There was also this gorgeous Aquaduct in Segovia that was built by the Romans and still stands today. Segovia's Cathedral was also gorgeous, which high arches and tall ceilings.
Segovia also has a castle that was the castle that Walt Disney based the Cinderella castle of.
We next went to Avila. Avila has this huge wall that fortified the city. There was also a church built into this wall! The round curve in the picture below is the church. The wall was first built by the Romans. This city was the smallest of the three.
Lastly we went to Tulum. Tulum is a city that makes many swords. The original people from Tulum knew how to make it from Russia. The directors from Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones bought the swords used in those productions from here! The city is biggest of the three. It’s up high on this orange mountain near a river. Tulum also has the main church of Spain there. It’s this huge Church with beautiful artwork. My favorite was this widow that had paintings that turned into sculptures. A 2D art into 3D art. Gorgeous, I haven’t seen anything like it.
We had a great time in Madrid, Segovia, Avila, and Tulum.
